PHILOSOPHICAL APPROACH

Research shows the therapeutic alliance is a key component in successful therapy.  I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and aim to provide a safe, supportive space - working intuitively with individuals to explore, process and aid healing from difficulties. I aim to facilitate a nurturing base in which clients can experience authenticity, openness and honesty in order to help develop increased self-awareness, personal growth and a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and contentment. My approach is warm, attentive and always with integrity.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COUNSELLORS, PSYCHOTHERAPISTS AND PSYCHOLOGISTS?

It can be confusing to make sense of the different types of counselling or psychotherapy available. The difference lies in the kind of, and level of training, the therapeutic approach, types of skill and knowledge base. I am a Chartered Counselling Psychologist. This reflects a high level of psychological knowledge and expertise recognised by the British Psychological Society. It is awarded to those who have completed a degree, Masters and Practitioner Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. In addition to this, I have also continued to train and have completed specialist further training in psychotherapy techniques including 3-part EMDR therapy, CBT, DBT, Mindfulness & Yoga Therapy and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I am also registered with and a member of the BPS, HCPC and EMDR association.

DO I NEED PSYCHOLOGICAL THERAPY?

Psychological therapy includes a number of psychotherapeutic approaches that can be helpful for a wide range of issues. You may feel anxious, depressed, stressed, irritable or angry. Perhaps you have financial, work or relationship-related difficulties. You may be troubled by past events or experiences. Sometimes people come to therapy aware of a particular issue they want to work on. Others may not feel sure.

Seeking therapy can be a daunting time, however a good therapist will help you to feel at ease and comfortable enough to talk about your concerns. It may be worth trying different counsellors to see what you feel most comfortable with. If you have any queries at all and would like to arrange a brief chat about therapy or the kinds of psychological therapy I offer, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

Many counsellors offer a strict 50 minute session. I prefer to offer some flexibility depending on the content or process of what is being discussed in the session and so most sessions last around 60 minutes. Some clients also prefer to book longer sessions in order to get more out of the therapy work. EMDR & body-based therapy sessions usually last 75-90 minutes.

HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?

This really depends and can be discussed on an individual basis. Some people come to see a psychologist for a set goal to work on and may only desire or require a few, maybe as little as 6 sessions. Others benefit from ongoing psychotherapy and support, this may be months or years. I offer both short and long-term therapy. Length of therapy can be discussed from the outset.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

My fees for Counselling Psychology in Marylebone, London are £200 per hour session. Online sessions are £175 per hour. EMDR therapy is usually 90 minutes in length. Fees are payable prior to, or on the day of the session. Payment is accepted cash or bank transfer.

WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL A SESSION?

Please contact me as soon as possible to let me know. Please note that sessions cancelled within a 48 hour period are still payable in full.
